The Matterhorn Mountain Motel has been accommodating Lake City visitors since 1949! Located in the heart of Lake City, mountainside at an elevation of 8,641 feet, we welcome you to find out why visitors from all over the planet keep coming back to our tiny corner of the Earth year after year. Our rooms are clean and comfortable, our staff friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We want your stay with us to be a pleasant and memorable experience.
The Matterhorn is located in the center of town within the Lake City Historic District. Our location offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains in every direction. Within walking distance of The Matterhorn, you will find restaurants, coffee shops, museum, arts center, theater, retail shops, parks, an ice park, Henson Creek and the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River. Lake San Cristobal is located 4 miles south of the motel and it is the second largest natural lake in the State of Colorado. Lake City is the only established town in Hinsdale County (the most remote county in the lower 48 United States). There are five 14,000 ft. peaks in our backyard (Handies, Red Cloud, Sunshine, Uncompahgre and Wetterhorn), even more 13,000 ft. peaks, and an abundance of other recreation possibilities.
The Matterhorn was profiled by photographer, John Fielder in his book Best of Colorado in 2002 where he stated "If I had to plan a perfect Colorado day, it would be in Lake City." We welcome you to find out what all the fuss is about.
